How to Offset posts in Archive pages?

Hi

Is there a way to offset the posts returning while on Archive pages by say 5 or more? (like offset=5)

The need arises when i have the top section of Archive page with first 5 articles in an entire different layout/design and rest of the posts in the list (including all other paginated posts) keeps the same design/layout.

Any help or an idea to solve would be great.
